Kurt Kemp, Worrier King Exhibition

The McNeese Department of Visual Arts is pleased to announce the showing of the Worrier King by Kurt Kemp. The Worrier King is a series of elaborate prints embellished with hand-coloring and the use of chine colle. Kemp will be also be exhibiting The Drunken Boat. The work is a unique livre d'artiste, a portfolio of five hand-colored prints created to accompany the text by Arthur Rimbaud.
Kemp is Professor of Studio Arts-Printmaking at Sonoma State University. He describes his work as a cross between contemporary pop culture and late 19th century poetry, full of dark absurdity, twisted irony and a delight in the ridiculous.
In conjunction with the gallery exhibition Kemp will be conducting a chine colle workshop Thursday, October 29 in the Printmaking Studio, room 126 in the Shearman Fine Arts Center.
The artist will present a gallery talk Wednesday, October 28 at 2:30 p.m. The opening reception will be Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. The events are free and open to the public.

The Abercrombie Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and is located in the Shearman Fine Arts Center. The exhibition runs through November 14.

6:00 p.m.

Alchemy is a unique experience in World Music, providing a blend of original and traditional world fusion music derived from a wide variety of genres including Celtic, Renaissance, French, Greek, Armenian, “Gypsy”, Flamenco, Sephardic, MiddleEastern and others.

Some songs this unique group will play are influenced by or derived from the Celtic and English traditional folk genre, some the Mediterranean, Greece and the untamed “Gypsy” stylings of the eastern European continent, and still others find their roots in the French speaking world. With a blend of vocal styling, bouzouki, accordion, mandolin, penny whistle, violin, cello and a heavy dose of earthy percussion, this band toasts the new era of world music!
